Issues Before Designing - Project 3 Art Gallery

Before begining to design the art gallery there were a few issues which needed to be thought about and sorted out it provided myself with some guidelines in which i could follow.

The first issue was: What type of art would be displayed? Is it a specific type or to be used for all possible types?
Answer: The type of artwork is to 'Glow In the Dark Art'. The artist which will be used as a basis for this type of unusual art is Adam Slater.

The second issue was: How are the spaces to be defined? Do you want open galleries or a series of rooms which link? Will this influence the circulation of the gallery?
Answer: The spaces are to be defined through the used of light sources - possibly through the use of light shafts which form walls. This design option will in turn provide open galleries which still have defined areas which could be dedicated to types of art or categories but will also provide a stimulation between the artowks, spaces and the occupants to influence the movement from one space to another. This will strongly influence the circulation of the gallery as it will provide stimulation and enticement from one space to another.

The third issue was: How will the apartement and offices be located in the design? Will these have access to the courtyard or become separate entities in the one design?
Answer: They will be loacted on the upper level which will be dedicated to the personal use of the gallery owner for his apartment and his offices. These spaces will not have direct access to the gallery but will have links (to be thought about in design process) which somehow relate and link to a memory of the courtyard space.

The fourth issue was: Will the spaces be all lit the same way - meaning will they all have equal amount of light?
Answer: No. Due to the persona of the artwork the gallery would need to have a variety of spaces which could demonstrate and express to the viewer the varying qualities of a glow in the dark artwork piece. This would mean that complete dark rooms would also need to be provided some where. An interesting idea could be that the building itself takes on a changing quality just like the artwork does in different light levels.
