Chosen Site - Project 3 Art Gallery

SITE 1:

The site that was selected out of the three possibilities was site one.
The reasons as to why this site was chosen was that it provided a defined shape in which the building design could be worked around. it also demonstrated an element of privacy behind this facade - this meaning that when the back of the site and its sides were investigated a clear demonstration as to how the context around this site played with the surfaces and where the most important focus points were.

The images below show how the facade on King street had the surface which was most prized and most influencial in the design and what happened bdhind was not as important as the issue of future developement around and its contexts need to be considered.

Also from viewing the site from above and partly from the side an understanding as to how light is used in the building is developed as clear viwes of the heights of surrounding buildings and the previous light source areas can be seen and this helps to express possibilities as to how source of light into the gallery may be treated.

Taking all this in mind a very important issue arrives which affects the whole design project before it can even begin and that is whether to keep in context with the surrounding buildings and they're highly ornate details and awnings or whether to divert away and make a statement with the design. These issues were all looked at before I started designing.
